Songs of the Century

John Denver’s song, “Take Me Home, Country Roads” has been selected by the Recording Association of America (RIAA) for their new project “Songs of the Century”. This project, funded by the National Endowment of the Arts and the RIAA, will bring a selection of 365 songs, albums and cast recordings into 10,000 American schoolrooms through a curriculum developed by Scholastic in cooperation with the RIAA and the Library of Congress. AOL Time Warner will also be providing online samples of the curriculum through its daily school service.
The song was chosen by an elite panel comprised of 1,500 teachers, journalists, students, artists, music industry executives and politicians. The final selections are quite formidable and eclectic, ranging from Ashford & Simpson to Elvis Presley! “Take Me Home, Country Roads” is one of seven Cherry Lane titles that “made the cut” as the most historically significant “Songs of the Century”.
