PERSONAL PASSIONS While the frontiers of the American West satisfied his spirit, Less-traveled frontiers appealed to his imagination. John’s well-known interest in outer space led him to witness the launch of the first internationally manned space flight, the Apollo/Soyuz 1. He was so taken with the experience that he attended the launch of the Apollo/Soyuz 2 as well as the landing of the space shuttle, the Sts 1. His enthusiasm for space travel was so great that he took and passed NASA’s physical examination to determine mental and physical fitness needed for space travel. cont....
